Tonight is Chaharshanbeh Souri! Yap! It finally is the eve of the last Wednesday of the Persian
New Year!
It’s time to built small bonfires and jump over them to release all the built up negativity onto the fire and draw positive energy from the fire.
It is also customary to have Ajil, Persian style trail mix, on this evening. I recently went on a camping trip to Anza-Borrego State Park and for said occasion I decided that I needed to shake up my trail mix. I wanted something sweet and sour so I came up with a very yummy combination from my local Persian store and Trader Joe’s.
Ingredients (makes 4 cups)
1 cup salty/sour almonds
1 cup dried sour cherries
1 cup dried mulberries
1 cup shelled pistachios
Simply mix all the ingredients together and place in an air tight container or ziplock bag.
I love the combination of sweet and sour. I love carrying the mix in my purse to as well and snack on it during my work break!
Enjoy both the MPK Sweet & Sour Ajil and Chaharshanbeh Souri!

Ajil is one of the best things in our culture.
My grandfather always had a dish of dried fruits & nuts on his bedside table. When I was little, I’d often ask permission to dig into it!
Still my fav snack.
Happy Nowruz!
