March Give Away: Norouz Cards

by My Persian Kitchen on March 2, 2011

The other day I received an email from one of the readers Atoosa making me aware that she recently opened an Etsy Shop where she sells cards that she and her husband create together. Next thing you know I had a fabulous March give away opportunity!!! The name of their shop is Kishmish Crafts.

Here is a little background about this fabulous creative duo:

Kishmish Crafts was founded in 2011 by the husband and wife team of Christian and Atoosa Estevez. Atoosa’s Persian heritage inspires her love of all things intricate, ornate, and whimsical while Christian’s mathematical and computer-oriented brain finds beauty in geometric shapes and clean, modern lines. In their new collection of Persian New Year cards, these two styles marry to create a harmonious and fresh interpretation which make their designs unique and special.

Can I just say that I love the name of the shop??!! So cute!

Atoosa and Christian have made 5 cards available for our give away. I think their cards are really pretty, but more than anything I love the fact that they are so unique!

In order to participate in the give away please answer the following question:

Do you send out cards for the Persian New Year to your family and friends?

- Give away open to all.
- Leave a comment with your answer. Please be sure to enter a valid email address. (email addresses are not published)
- Only one entry per person is permitted.
- Give away open until Monday March 7th at 8pm Pacific Time.
- Winner will be announced on Tuesday March 8th.

I don’t, but have a family member who is learning MSA (it’s a start!) and I would send these to him!

jamie March 2, 2011 at 9:30 am

What a lovely contest idea (and I will have to check out their etsy store)!!

Since I am not Persian, this year will be the first that I will be giving small gifts and cards to my Persian friends during Norouz!!

Shabnam Aminmadani March 2, 2011 at 9:38 am

I haven’t sent cards, but you just gave me the idea to send them this year for sure!!!

:) Thanks!

My husband is Persian, so we always wish his family happy Norouz either over the phone or through email – we have sent e-cards the last few years, but we’ve never come across real cards you can send in the mail! Thanks for a great give-away these cards are so cute!

Sahar March 2, 2011 at 11:50 am

Love! Love Love!!! the cards. Yes I do send out Norouz cards and these are beautiful!!!! I am not Persian but have two daughters that are as well as my husband and many friends!!! I love sending cards. It’s kinda of a dying art to mail cards and letters with so much technology. But I love letters/cards. So I still send both out. thanks!! I love this site so many good things on it!

Cindy Monshizadeh March 2, 2011 at 1:27 pm

Yes we send out cards to our family in Iran with pictures and a short letter. I decorate the home for spring ( Easter and New Year) and try to have friends over to have a Norouz cookout!

These are gorgeous. My husband is Persian and I love the cultural traditions that come alive during Nouruz. I’m planning a Haft Seen for the first time in our home and these cards would be beautiful to send out, we’ve never given out gifts before. Thank you for the giveaway.

I´m not persian myself but I have a persian boyfriend and several persian friends. I don´t usually send out a “real” noruz card,I just send a digital one to their e-mails. This year however it would be wonderful to send out a genuin paper card to friends and I think it would really bring a lot of joy to them.

Janelle March 2, 2011 at 2:36 pm

I have not sent real persian new year cards but have received a few nice e cards from my brother in law! I love the cards featured and would love to send them out!

clara March 2, 2011 at 3:58 pm

I’m not Persian but I do send cards once a month to family and friends just to say “Hi” since most of them live so far away.

Cassie March 2, 2011 at 4:26 pm

I am not Persian and have never sent out Noruz cards, but I have many Persian friends and I would love to send these cards to them this year! The cards are quite beautiful.

Neomi March 2, 2011 at 9:40 pm

These cards are so beautiful! Sadly I’ve never sent out cards for Noruz but
I’m pretty inspired by these cards to start a new tradition!

Shohreh Taylor March 2, 2011 at 11:23 pm

Beautiful cards and they certainly represent the rich Persian culture and patterns. To tell the truth, some years back, I found some traditional Norouz greeting cards that was a drawing of a beautiful Haftseen table in an old fashion style and other Norouz scenes. I bought four of them and sent two to the oldest member of our family per tradition back home. But I kept the other two and loved it so much that I cut the cards and framed them, displaying it over my make up table for years until we moved. I still have them as they are very special, just like the cards above. I especially love the fish card. Please let me know where the shop is located at.

Sooz March 3, 2011 at 6:45 am

I’m a new “Persian” by marriage. Yes, we do send greetings but no cards available here so we mostly do it by email, phone, Skype etc. Would be lovely to be able to send some cards by mail! Our family and friends are all over the world. The Kishmish ones are really beautiful! You can tell we live in a place where there aren’t many other Persians! We even have a big plastic fish for the haft sin table. It’s kinda cute but not very authentic. I would like more authenticity for Nowruz and the cards would be perfect!

Alrighty Now! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these Nowrooz cards from Kishmish!!! So unique, culturally relevant and rich with optimisim. Need I say more. Of course I send out cards to family. Most of my family lives in Iran and each year I look for new and refreshing Nowrooz cards. Gotta love Kishmish for making it happen! Congrats to them and continued success on launching a very creative and inspiring expression for Nowrooz!

Cat March 3, 2011 at 11:53 am

My best friend is Persian (I’m not) and, even though he now lives on the other side of the world, I always make a point of sending him (& his parents) a nice e-card. It’d be great to post a REAL card for a change – what a good way to let him know that he’s on my mind and not a last minute entry on my March to-do list.
Crossing my fingers AND wishing you a happy new year!!

Merage March 3, 2011 at 2:33 pm

The hubby and I are thinking of sending nowrooz cards to our families and friends this year :) I really want to do something unique… haven’t decided how to do that yet, but I should get on it since some of the cards will be sent airmail and that takes a good 2 weeks. We haven’t sent cards in the past, but we’ve finally settled down so I think it’s about time to get my craft on! :P

laura genetelli March 3, 2011 at 2:44 pm

what beautiful cards, i especially love the cat…i have never sent any cards, but will this year…happy new year!

Zahra March 3, 2011 at 7:56 pm

My husband and I try to send cards (homemade) to our very close family. It takes a lot of effort and usually just ends up looking like a second grader’s art project. It’s very sad. Our families would be super pleased with ACTUAL cards!!!!

Karyn Rene' March 3, 2011 at 11:10 pm

Yes, I acknowledge Persian New Year with greeting cards, and would love to have the ‘proper cards’ to send. Have done the plain cards in the past and filled in the acknowledgement of Nowrooz. So nice to have these Persian greeting cards available! Thank you for introducing these.

Nasrin March 4, 2011 at 8:28 am

I have not in the past….but this post is making me consider doing so in the future!

Erin March 4, 2011 at 10:07 am

Yes! I also take Persian cookies to work, place them in the staff lounge with a Happy Persian New Year sign. :)

Idean March 4, 2011 at 3:13 pm

I love the cards plus i know my family would too! Merci:)

Lori Lynn March 6, 2011 at 9:43 am

Hi Sanam! Those cards are truly adorable, no, I’ve never sent out Norouz cards, but I have a dear friend who does.

No, I’ve never sent out Norouz cards, but am so inspired to do so, beginning this year. My Persian husband has never celebrated Norouz, something I wish we’d have done b/c I love the beautiful Persian traditions. My son’s birthday is 3/19, Ash Wednesday is the 9th, so having such a rich season for celebration would only be made better with observing Norouz. It’s never too late to start something wonderful, right :) ) Thanks :) ) Lisa

Amanda March 6, 2011 at 6:31 pm

I haven’t before, but this year is a good year to start!

Kerry Denny March 7, 2011 at 1:04 am

No I have never sent out a Norouz card .. yet .. but I live in Australia and my doctor is Iranian. We have become friends and I would love to send her and her lovely family a Norouz card. They always celebrate Norouz with all the family and friends.

Rebecca March 7, 2011 at 8:51 am

Yes I send out Norouz cards to my family and friends. My in-laws are Persian and I am quickly becoming one too! My non-Persian friends have enjoyed learning about the food and culture with me.

Claire March 7, 2011 at 6:46 pm

My husband is Persian and we have always mixed the best of both cultures. Our wedding ceremony was a fusion of traditional Persian and Episcopalian ceremonies. We have not sent out Norooz cards yet, but I was hoping to do it this year since we skipped the Christmas cards!

Tasha March 7, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Always get cards from Iran but never realized I could purchase cards here in the US! Great idea.

Lisa Hernandez March 7, 2011 at 8:28 pm

These cards are absolutly gorgeous. I would love to have them to give to my friends that are persian. I think they would be a wondeful way of recognizing the persian new year. Unexpected yet pleasently surprised.
